We are incredibly proud of our young people for taking part in this year’s Three Thing Game Jam at University of Hull, where they presented their original game, Check, Please! to students, staff and fellow developers.
The Three Thing Game is a well-established game development challenge that brings together creativity, teamwork and technical skills. Participants are given three surprise words and challenged to create a game inspired by them within a limited time.
For our young people, this was an exciting opportunity to step into a university environment, showcase their ideas and experience the world of higher education and digital careers firsthand. Their game, Check, Please!, was warmly received by everyone attending. Our group were welcomed by university students and staff, who took time to play the game, offer encouragement and celebrate what the team had achieved. For young people who had worked hard to develop their ideas, it was a fantastic confidence boost and recognition of their creativity, determination and talent.
As part of the visit, the group were also given a guided tour of the university’s impressive facilities by Simon Grey. They explored the computer labs, visited the Hull Immersive Visualisation Environment (HIVE), and looked around the library.
The HIVE was a particular highlight. This state-of-the-art immersive technology facility features a 3D virtual reality cube, VR theatre, advanced visualisation tools, a gigapixel wall and motion capture technology. Seeing cutting-edge digital technology in action gave our young people an inspiring glimpse into the future possibilities of gaming, design, technology and creative industries.
A huge thank you also goes to David Parker, who ran the event and helped create such a welcoming and inspiring experience for everyone involved.
Experiences like this are invaluable for our young people. They not only develop digital and creative skills, but also build confidence, teamwork and aspirations for the future. Being able to share their work in a professional setting, connect with university students and staff, and explore advanced learning spaces helps show that their ideas and abilities have real value.
We would like to congratulate everyone involved in creating Check, Please! and thank the team at University of Hull for making the day such a positive and memorable one. We look forward to seeing where our young people’s creativity takes them next.
