Did you know... 18th March is Global Recycling Day!

We don't half love a good recycling hack here at The Warren, and we're betting you might have some brilliant ideas up your sleeve too. To celebrate this eco-friendly occasion, we've compiled some of the weirdest, most creative ways to give your old stuff a second life.

Bizarre But Brilliant Recycling Tips

1. Old Skateboard Decks → Unique Shelving

Got a broken skateboard gathering dust? Remove the wheels and mount the deck on your wall as a floating shelf. Perfect for displaying your treasures while keeping your room's cool factor intact.

2. Empty Crisp Tubes → Phone Amplifiers

Turn that empty Pringles tube into a no-electricity-needed phone speaker! Cut a slot for your phone, decorate the outside however you like, and enjoy surprisingly improved sound without using any power.

3. Broken Umbrellas → Festival Backpacks

Don't bin that umbrella that got mangled in Hull's infamous winds! Cut out the fabric and stitch it into a waterproof backpack that'll keep your stuff dry at festivals or on rainy days.

4. Old Toothbrushes → Keyboard Cleaners

Those difficult-to-reach spaces between your keyboard keys? Perfect job for an old toothbrush! Sterilise it first, then use it to tackle dust in electronics, clean trainers, or even as a mini grout brush.

5. Single Socks → Dust Mitts

The mysterious case of the disappearing sock leaves us all with odd ones. Slip a single sock over your hand, spray with polish and you've got yourself a reusable dusting mitt that works better than disposable wipes.

6. CDs and DVDs → Light-Catching Art

Those obsolete discs in your drawer can create amazing light displays! Hang them in windows to catch sunlight, or break them (carefully, wearing gloves!) and use the pieces for mosaic projects.

7. Empty Lip Balm Containers → Secret Storage

Clean out that empty Carmex or Vaseline tin and you've got the perfect waterproof container for emergency money, earbuds, or even USB sticks when travelling.

8. Empty Tea Boxes → Desk Organisers

Don't chuck those Yorkshire Tea boxes when you're done! Remove the top, cover with leftover wallpaper or wrapping paper, and you've got perfect little compartments for pens, paperclips and all your desk odds and ends.

9. Takeaway Containers → Seedling Starters

Those plastic containers from your favourite takeaway make perfect mini-greenhouses for starting seeds. Poke drainage holes in the bottom, fill with soil, and you're ready to grow.

10. Old Denim → Waterproof Picnic Blanket

Cut up worn-out jeans into squares, sew together with backing material, and you've got yourself a stylish, durable picnic blanket that'll stand up to damp grass in Hull's parks.
