We're proud to announce that Harry, one of our dedicated youth workers at The Warren, featured on BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat today, discussing Netflix's powerful new drama series "Adolescence" and sharing his own experiences of being led down a potentially dangerous path during his teenage years.

About the Netflix Show "Adolescence"

"Adolescence" is a groundbreaking four-part drama series currently streaming on Netflix that has sparked important conversations across the UK. The show follows the Miller family, whose lives are devastated when 13-year-old Jamie is arrested for killing a female classmate. The series explores challenging themes including knife crime, social media influence, online radicalisation, and the pressures faced by young men in Britain today.

The drama has been praised for its unflinching portrayal of how seemingly ordinary teenagers can become radicalised online without parents or teachers noticing. It highlights the gap between adults' perceptions of young people's online activities and the reality of what they may be exposed to on the internet – from cyberbullying to harmful content promoting misogyny and violence.

Harry's Story

In his interview with BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, Harry bravely shared his own personal experiences which mirror some of the struggles portrayed in the show. He spoke candidly about the challenges he faced as a teenager and how he came close to being drawn into dangerous environments and mindsets.

Harry discussed how the online world can sometimes become an echo chamber of negative influences for vulnerable young people seeking belonging and identity, particularly young men who may feel lost or isolated. He explained how his own journey eventually led him to The Warren, where he found positive support, guidance and purpose – ultimately inspiring him to become a youth worker himself to help others facing similar challenges.

The Warren on BBC Look North

The conversation continues tonight as The Warren will be appearing on BBC Look North at 6:30pm. Our team will be speaking about the experiences of young people across Hull and beyond, addressing the real-world issues highlighted by "Adolescence" and discussing the vital support services available through The Warren.

Why These Conversations Matter

At The Warren, we believe that open dialogue about the challenges facing young people is essential. Shows like "Adolescence" help bring difficult topics into the mainstream, creating opportunities for meaningful discussions between young people, parents, educators, and support services.

The issues portrayed in the series – from online radicalisation to peer pressure and the search for identity – are realities that many young people navigate daily. That's why The Warren offers a safe space for young people to talk about their experiences, access mental health support, develop new skills, and find positive pathways forward.
