The Warren Youth Project has been supporting women and marginalised young people for over 40 years. Throughout our history, we've worked on and delivered campaigns centred around preventing violence against women and girls, supporting survivors and those affected by domestic violence.

We're excited to announce our newest initiative continuing this important work: GRRRit.

What is GRRRit?

GRRRit is a groundbreaking new project launching in April 2025 that aims to address challenges faced by marginalised genders, particularly young women in the Hull events and music scene.

Through working with a collective of young people in Hull, we seek to:

  • Identify oppressive barriers to accessing live music events
  • Empower individuals with professional and personal development opportunities
  • Raise awareness of sexism, harassment and harmful behaviours in music venues and events
  • Create safer spaces for everyone to enjoy Hull's vibrant music scene

Who Can Get Involved?

We're looking for young people who:

  • Are aged 16 to 25
  • Love live music
  • Have thoughts and opinions on the local music scene
  • Want to make a positive change in Hull

Please note that this project is specifically open to women and marginalised genders.

Making Live Music Safer

As part of our commitment to creating safer environments, the Warren Records staff team will be completing the Good Night Out Campaign's accreditation programme. This specialist training will equip our team with the skills and knowledge to help create safer gig environments throughout the local area.

The Good Night Out Campaign is an independent organisation working with venues, bars, clubs and pubs to better prevent and respond to sexual harassment and assault. Their evidence-based approach will help us implement practical changes that make real differences to people's safety and enjoyment.

How GRRRit Will Work

GRRRit will bring together a collective of young people through regular meetings and workshops at The Warren.

These sessions will provide opportunities to:

  • Learn more about the music and events industry
  • Share experiences of the local music scene
  • Meet like-minded people
  • Help shape the direction of the project
  • Develop ideas for making positive changes in Hull

Why This Matters

For too many young women and people of marginalised genders, accessing live music and events can be fraught with challenges—from feeling unsafe in venues to experiencing harassment, from not seeing themselves represented on stage to facing barriers to participation behind the scenes.

GRRRit aims to tackle these issues head-on, creating pathways for young people to not only attend events safely but also to build skills, gain experience, and potentially develop careers in the music industry.
