Did you see the news? 👀
We've got something major to share that could transform Hull's music scene and create amazing opportunities for young people across the city!
A couple of weeks ago, Hull officially submitted its bid to become a UNESCO Creative City of Music – and we couldn't be more excited about what this means for our city and the young people we work with at The Warren.
This isn't just another award or title. If successful, Hull would join an elite international network of cities celebrated for their vibrant music cultures, creativity and innovation. The UNESCO Creative Cities Network includes musical powerhouses like Liverpool, Glasgow, Auckland, Bogotá and Kingston, Jamaica – and Hull could be next to join this prestigious global community!
For young people passionate about music, this bid represents a world of possibilities. UNESCO recognition would open up huge opportunities across the city, including:
We're especially excited about how this could benefit the young people we work with at The Warren, from those just starting to explore their musical interests to those already developing their talents in our recording studio and music spaces.
We're buzzing to have been part of the planning and consultation for this bid! The Warren has long championed the power of music to transform young lives, providing spaces, equipment and mentoring for young musicians across Hull.
Our team has contributed insights about youth engagement in music and how UNESCO status could specifically benefit young people who might otherwise face barriers to accessing music opportunities. The voices and experiences of young people at The Warren have helped shape Hull's vision for what being a UNESCO Creative City of Music could mean.
Now comes the waiting game. The UNESCO evaluation process takes several months, with decisions typically announced later in the year. We've got everything crossed for a positive outcome that would put Hull's incredible music scene on the world map!
In the meantime, don't let that stop you from getting involved with music at The Warren. Our recording studio, practice spaces, equipment and experienced music mentors are all available to help you develop your skills, whether you're a complete beginner or already working on your mixtape.
We'll be keeping a close eye on Hull's UNESCO bid progress and will share updates as soon as we hear anything. This could be the start of something truly special for our city and its young musicians.
